Spizella breweri
Spotted some kind of sparrow in the Mojave Desert where very few birds were spotted. It had an unusual high pitch twitchy call
Shape looks better for a Spizella: tiny bill, long tail, round head. Overall very bland and gray/brown... (plus location). Looks good for a Brewer's Sparrow to me.
That is a cropped image. The bird was about 100ft out. That was the only one I saw that close.
It's a possibility. This is the checklist for the Heart of the Mojave where we were.
___ Black-chinned Sparrow (WR)
___ Chipping Sparrow (WR/SR)
___ Brewer's Sparrow (SR)
___ Vesper Sparrow (SR)
___ Lark Sparrow (WR/SR)
___ Black-throated Sparrow (SR)
___ Sage Sparrow (SR/WR/PR)
___ Savannah Sparrow (WR/PR)
___ Fox Sparrow (WR/SR)
___ Song Sparrow (PR)
___ Lincoln's Sparrow (WR/SR)
___ Golden-crowned Sparrow (WR)
___ White-crowned Sparrow (PR)
Not 100%. Did it have a large black breast spot? If so this is a Lark Sparrow.
Thanks Luis. Was hoping to see a Roadrunner. But only saw a few birds. This, some finches, something that may have been a Ladderback Woodpecker and Ravens. No raptors were spotted except a Barn Owl at night.
