Hemileuca maia

Description:

About 2" long, with hairy/spiny protrusions, brown and black in coloration.

Habitat:

Texas Hill Country with live oaks & cedars in the area.

Notes:

CAUTION: This caterpillar seemed innocent enough, but we found that it has urticating hairs when my son felt burning on his arm and got welts. See pics.

I switched the order for you :)

My efforts to do that failed. I deleted the arm picture and uploaded another close up, and it still shows the picture which I deleted.

Hi Michael, I am so sorry your son had to find out the hard way about the dangers of Buck Moth caterpillars!

This is a nice series but would you please change the order of the images so the caterpillar is the first image. The focus here should be on the organism itself. It's ok to leave the picture of your son's arm in there, just further back in the order.
