Fringed Wrinkle Lichen (wet)

Tuckermanopsis americana

Description:

Foliose dark to brown olive-brown ascending wrinkled lobes with similarly colored disks. Greenish when wet. Lower surface pale to dark brown and wrinkled.

Habitat:

Grows on twigs and branches of conifers and birch in exposed sites.

Notes:

Named for Edward Tuckerman (1817-1886), the pre-eminent founder and promoter of lichnology in North America.
