Fuzzy yellow fly. I'd say a bit smaller than a Honeybee.

These flies would hover above the trail, occasionally landing for a minute or two. Spotted on Hawthorne trail. ID'd at BugGuide by Ken Wolgemuth. 13

Yeah it is smaller than a bee and faster ;)
Yeah, especially since there was not much in bloom so there wasn't much reason for them to stop moving.
Awesome shot! I know how tricky these guys can be to photograph!
