I'll try to get some fresh images today. I think it is the side view pattern that is distinctive and rarely seen on web images. Leptocorisa varicornis is close, but I agree, no cigar :)Dave

Yeah you're right, this is Hemiptera.. But I don't think this is a rice beetle..
I have photographed lots of these and cannot believe that they are difficult to ID, but I found nothing other than close to rice beetle.DAve
