La llama puede vivir en alturas superiores a los 5.500 metros sobre el nivel del mar porque sus pulmones tienen la capacidad de oxigenarse bien a esas alturas. Tienen hasta 2 crías al año. Las orejas son grandes, lobuladas, erectas y bien implantadas en la cabeza.

I did wonder about the llama at the ruins. Our alpacas make equally excellent lawn mowers and brush clearers.

Thank you to all of you! When Hiram Bingham discovered Machu Picchu in 1911 it was covered by dense vegetation; nowadays the llamas are in charge of keeping these impressive ruins clear of undergrowth.
