Io Moth

Automeris io

Description:

This large female io moth was found just outside of our door. It was resting over a batch of eggs and stayed there for two nights before disappearing. The eggs remained and, within a week, they hatched. (The last picture provided is of the baby caterpillars eating their egg casings.)
