Stilt bug

Jalysus spinosus (probably)

Description:

Family: Berytidae (Stilt bugs); Subfamily: Metacanthinae; all light brown in color; Length: 6-9 mm; long legs, long abdomen, long antennae; trait of the family Berytidae is the very long basal segment of the antennae.

Habitat:

on gaura plant

Notes:

With their very long legs Stilt Bugs might be confused with Thread-legged Assassin Bugs, but Stilt Bugs do not have grasping front legs. Since it is said that they may supplement their plant-based diet with small arthropods and their eggs, I have included a picture of what looks like apids they might be eating and lacewing eggs (picture 3) that are on the same plant. Some say it is a pest on tomatoes.
