Belted Kingfisher

Description:

A male Belted Kingfisher on a telephone or power line on a windy day

Habitat:

Near an area of open river where the river runs into Otter Tail Lake

Notes:

I thought all winter I'd heard the call of the Belted Kingfisher but saw it for the first time 4-3-13. According to my bird book they are not supposed to be in our area during winter but their call is unmistakable so perhaps the one I was hearing all winter was slightly injured or not healthy enough to migrate south...
