Siler semiglaucus
Saying hello to everyone!!! Brilliantly colored jumping spider. About 5mm size. They are almost always found near small black ant colonies. These ants do not seem to attack them. These spiders also prey on the ants, their larvae and their eggs. Here one female specimen is seen stealing an ant larva.
Spotted on a banana plant near an ant colony.

Thank you Ashley and project Noah for the selection...
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Thank you Jason..
Stunning!!
Thank you Heather and Veloso .
They also signal with their front legs...
Really great pictures :)
As sunnyjosef mentioned, I also thought it looks like the spider is trying to mimic antennae by using its front legs. Jumping spiders are truly amazing.
Thank you Leuba for your comments. I have read somewhere that there are several kind of mimicry among these critters.... Some visually mimic others while some others are chemically masking their identity. Mysterious and wonderful world indeed...!
Interesting information and of course a very lovely spotting ! Thanks Sunny. I wonder why the ants haven't developed any defense mechanism - must read.
Thank you so much Pradeep....
