Lindorus lophanthae
This tiny beetle was only 3 mm long. It had black elytra and red thorax and head. Eyes were black. The whole beetle was covered with dense short hairs.
Spotted under bright lights near a sports field surrounded by native trees and gardens.
This lady beetle eats scales. It lays eggs under the scale and developing larvae eat the scales. It was introduced to a few countries including Cook Island and the US (California) to control Scale. It has proved valuable in comtrolling scale in Pine, Cycads and several indoor plants. http://cookislands.bishopmuseum.org/spec...
