Chequered Keelback

Description:

Medium sized snake, common in South China, eats frogs (shown) and insects.

Habitat:

Likes swimming but often found in grasslands.

Notes:

This one attacked the foam frog while they were mating but didn't seem to be able to kill it or eat it. Despite lots of twisting, it gave up after awhile. There were two of these snakes in a water tank right below me. They were hoovering up anything that moved.
