There's many lady beetle species in the United States. The two most common from coast to coast are common because they are for sale on the commercial market. The lady beetle in your picture is the seven-spotted lady beetle, one of the two commercial ladybugs. They get released each year by gardeners and other groups because they eat aphids and other insect pests.

You can get a definite ID by looking at the black and white pattern on the neck. Sometimes the spots on lady beetle wings can change.
