Yellow-headed Blackbird

Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus

Description:

An adult, male, Yellow-headed Blackbird

Habitat:

Near state land called Prairie Ridge outside of Fergus Falls, Minnesota where a large slough butts up to a dirt road and surrounded by farm fields, marshlands and a gravel pit of some kind

Notes:

I believe this male Yellow-headed Blackbird was looking for a mate but it could have been protecting a nearby nest. He would fluff himself up and march along the dirt road and slough, then pause and sing, wait a while for a reply perhaps and then start the whole process all over again.

From it's scientific name,it looks like this bird is not related to the red winged black bird.
