Brachydiplax chalybea
Sometimes known as Yellow-patched Lieutenant. A common species in Singapore. The male is 33-35mm long and a hindwing of 24-27mm. The upper thorax and abdomen is a light powder blue, the sides of the thorax are black/brown and tip of the abdomen is black. Males have a diagnostic amber tint to the base of their wings.
Found around ponds, drains and other wet areas, this male was seen in the Botanic Gardens in Singapore.
Although widespread and common the female is rarely seen or perhaps just overlooked. Ref: DNA of Singapore.
