Juí Puerto Rican Flycatcher

Description:

Tyranid dark brown upperparts and light underparts. Sometimes there is a suggestion of two bars on the wings creamy. Size: 18-20 cm., Weight: 23 g.

Habitat:

Shade coffee plantations and forests at low elevation, especially coastal scrub.

Notes:

The Flycatcher is well camouflaged while perched on a branch in the low or intermediate layers of the forest, waiting for the last of an insect to fly after him. The dams include wasps, bees, dragonflies, Hemiptera and caterpillars, with about 15% of the diet consists of fruits and berries. Occasionally it feeds on snails, lizards and coqui. The jaws of tyrants have ligaments that close quickly reaching peak insects in flight. From February to July, the species nests in cavities in trees or nest boxes. The clutch size is 3-6 eggs yellowish with brown spots both sexes incubate. Unlike many land birds, but like the female, the male develops in the womb area devoid of feathers where body heat can be transferred to the eggs. The young can fly about 15 to 16 days after hatching.
