Agkistrodon contortrix contortrix
An overall tan snake with dark brown hourglass shapes down the body.
Found in the southeastern US in mostly oak forests. These two were found road cruising, and we put them in oak leaves for pictures.

Only the babies can kill you, because they don't regulate their venom when they bite. Copperheards, at least the ones in Missouri, aren't aggressive at all.
Snakes are venomous, not poisonous. And copperheads are only mildly venomous, very rarely does anyone die from a copperhead bite.
wow, watch out the copperhead is a very poisonous snake
Thanks Rieko, Gerardo, and Antonio :)
Wow,great capture Ashley, gorgeous, congrats and thanks for sharing
Awesome series !
Awesome! Lovely colors. Though I am afraid of snakes....
:)
sweeet. thanks Ashley.
Yep, but it is just a mild venom. People rarely die from a copperhead bite unless they are allergic to the venom or something. Luckily, these guys are reluctant to bite and will usually just sit there and use there camouflage to not be seen unless you pretty much step on them!
haha :) aren't they venomous?
Thanks Lisa, Brendan, and Joshua! Joshua, we found both of these guys while road cruising where they are easy to see. I always search hard for them when walking through oak litter, but I hate think about how many I've probably walked right past because they blend in so well!
this is awesome, love this spotting :) glad you spotted them before who knows what! do you have your eyes trained to look for that sort of thing?
so awesome! two together and such great markings. love it!
Awesome spotting Ashley!
