House Centipede

Scutigera coleoptrata

Description:

Long body with many very long, thin legs. Brown coloration. Three dark dorsal (back) stripes running the length of the body. Lighter in between the stripes with light/white dots. Very fast moving! Aggressive predator of arthropods.

Habitat:

Suburban yard found under leaf litter. Often found in homes, in damp areas.

Notes:

Considered beneficial predators. These Centipedes readily prey on Cockroaches, Silverfish, Bedbugs, Spiders and any other arthropods of similar or smaller size. Harmless to humans.
