A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Tirumala hamata
The Blue Tiger is unmistakable with blue streaks oval spots on a dark background. They have a slow weak flight. Adults congregate in large numbers along creek banks along northern Queensland coast in dry season.
Often found in rainforest or vine thickets. Their food plants are vines Secamone elliptica and Ischnostemma carnosum. The caterpillar usually found feeding underside of the leaf. Their pupa is fresh green and shiny with some golden spots. Their range includes coastal Queensland and New South Wales, and top of Northern Territory.
At the moment for some reason my yard is literally like a butterfly garden. There are hundreds of butterflies of all different species everywhere!
