Females are wingless, with the body and legs mottled black and white. Hosts include basswood, apple, ash, beech, birch, elm, maple, oak, poplar, Prunus and Ribes. (information from BugGuide)

These caterpillars were EVERYWHERE in the forest, and they didn't seem to care which trees they were feeding on.
