There are 12 similar Diaethra sp., many known as 88 Butterflies after the pattern on their upper hindwing.
The banks of the river at Iguazu Falls, Argentina. This species occurs at elevations between sea level and about 2000m, in rainforest and cloud-forest habitats where the larval foodplants Trema ( Ulmaceae ) grow. They are commonly found in the vicinity of human habitations, e.g. on river banks close to jetties, at places where laundry is washed, at ash covered ground at the site of campfires, and at urine-tainted patches of bare ground.

No artist may equal the beauty of such magnificent butterfly; being able to see it in reality must be superb and even kind of magical regarding the fact that we see more pictures than butterflies....
