This colorful beauty was flitting about the shoreline of a lake, catching insects where he could. Wildlife Refuge in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
We don't get many vividly-colored birds here in CO...just a few, and when we see them, it's great!! ;-)
I saw them in Idyllwild California, and once in the lowlands when there was a big fire. They are so different, I'd never forget them. You're lucky, we don't get many bluebirds on the coast
Thanks Kranti! Karen, thank you...didn't know they were NOT in the mountains! I looked at a range map and they extend much further north and east than the Western...makes more sense to me!! ;-) Thanks again!
Both the male and female western bluebird have reddish breasts. This is a mountain bluebird. A gorgeous male
