Ferguson's Scallop Shell Moth

Description:

Ferguson's Scallop Shell or Cherry Scallop Shell (Rheumaptera prunivorata) is a moth of the Geometridae family with a wingspan of ~35 mm.

Habitat:

It is found from New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario in Canada, through the eastern parts of the United States, down to Georgia. This one was photographed near a deciduous forest in Edgefield County, SC.

Notes:

It's also called Cherry Scallop Shell Moth. This is a new record for this species in Edgefield County, SC. The moth flies from May to September depending on the location. The larva feed on Prunus virginiana.
