Ornate Butterflyfish - kikakapu

Chaetodon ornatissimus

Description:

Grow to 8 inches. Strongly paired, they defend a home territory where they keep others of their own species away, but other butterflyfishes are tolerated.

Habitat:

Although they eat live coral and coral mucus, they do not seem to harm the reef. Central and Western Pacific.

Notes:

Although I have sited these many times now, I am still thrilled when a pair joins me on the reef!
