Alligator mississippiensis
This is a young alligator who was taking advantage of a warm, sunny day to bask in the sun at the bottom of a boat ramp. Nesting takes place in June with a 9-week incubation period. This young gator is 6-7 months old.

Very nice series... Is this the fresh water crocodile ? alligator ? Is it danger to swim with it ? I herd in Australia, we be able to swim with fresh water crocodile / alligator.
S Frazier: I dropped a mission and picked up this one; I have quite a few spottings that I think fit this mission well. JenniferRoge: the closeup IS cute but, trust me!, I didn't get all that close....the zoom lens caught the shot! EnvUnlimited: the young alligator is added to the mission.
The close up is so cute
Hello. Nice spotting!
I think there is a physical limit of 5 missions for a spotting. A more direct EOL link is http://eol.org/pages/796029/overview for this species. You could replace that :-)
EnvUnlimited....I would love to add this to the Animal Young of Florida but I already have 5 missions....can I add another?
