Ring-necked Snake

Diadophis punctatus

Description:

Snake. Brown on top with yellow, orange and red markings on the belly. Yellow orange band near the head. Discovered in the rocks around my children's swing set. Approximately 8-12 inches long. About as big around as a dime. Very fast despite the cool temperature.

Habitat:

Under the retaining wall supporting the swing set enclosure.

I erased my suggestion due to conflicting range information on NeilDazets link. :/ The belly spots still seem more like the stictogenys to me.

The subspecies I find here are usually tiny. You get the decent sized ones over there. :)
