Single-cell green alga, ca 2 cm. A single nucleus located in the root-like base of the alga. Genus common in subtropical waters. Acetabularia is famous from the experiments, which demonstrated that its genetic information is contained in the nucleus and that genes are encoded by DNA in eukaryotes.
