Variegated Golden Chalice

Solandra maxima

Description:

Variegated Golden Chalice growing along the trail that leads from Pali Lookout down to Maunawili Falls Trail on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. This is a very large flower (6" diameter) I thought to be a hibiscus from a distance. Similar plant structure, but the flower looks as though it could be used as a cup to hold water.
