Common garter snake

Thamnophis sirtalis

Description:

There are lots of garter snakes out now. Here is a female who has recently shed her skin and has a really beautiful color. In the second picture you can see the typically black and white checkerboard pattern that helps distinguish garter snakes from ribbon snakes. You can also s the venter (underside) which is greenish-turquoise and yellow with black markings. Found at Lake Accotink.
