I broke down and purchased a book on Lichens of the North Woods by Joe Walewski. Lichens are difficult to ID, but fun! I am not an expert. I just enjoy all nature and I love close-up pictures of lichen the best. I believe it may be Rock Shield if it is on a rock. I noticed lots of people can ID insects, but not a lot of help with Lichen (sometimes a true id is needed with a microscope). Close-up images of Lichen are just as cool as insects. Lots of luck with the rock lichen. - Doreen

Interesting. Today I saw something similar to this but growing on rocks. Would that be possible?
