Texas Mocis

Description:

The Texas Mocis (Mocis texana) is a species of moth of the Noctuidae family. The wingspan is 42–50 mm.

Habitat:

It is found in eastern North America, from southern Ontario, south to Florida, west to Texas to Minnesota. This one was photographed at the edge of a deciduous forest in Edgefield County, SC.

Notes:

Adults are on wing from April to September. The larvae feed on Digitaria species. Digitaria is a genus of about 300 species of grass (family Poaceae) native to tropical and warm temperate regions. Common names include crabgrass, finger-grass, and fonio. Hodges 8745. Per BAMONA, this is a new record for this species in Edgefield County, SC.
