In the UICN red book this frog is listed as "Near Threatened". According to Wikipedia : "Anthony's poison arrow frog (Epipedobates anthonyi) is a poison dart frog species in the Dendrobatidae family. It is found in Ecuador and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, rivers, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marshes, rural gardens, and heavily degraded former forest. It is threatened by habitat loss."

Esta especie y Epipedobates tricolor fueron separadas por Schulte (1999). He seguido la clasificación de Graham et al. (2004) restringiendo la distribución de E. anthonyi al sur de Ecuador y norte de Perú, a diferencia de E. tricolor.

This specie and Epipedobates tricolor were separated by Schulte (1999). I followed the Graham's classification (2004), restricting the distribution of E. anthonyi to south Ecuador and north Peru.
