Groundhog

Marmota monax

Description:

I spotted a very small groundhog peeping out of his burrow before he went back inside. Groundhogs are actually large ground squirrels. They are also known as woodchucks and whistlepigs.

Habitat:

Prefers grassy lowlands.

Notes:

I spotted this fellow in a fenced off area next to a parking lot. It wasn't intended for groundhogs, but it goes to show the animal's adaptability.
