Yellow Potter Wasp

Delta campaniforme

Description:

Vivid yellow and black wasp, body length 20mm, was circling an area of approx 40cm, which is how I was able to take Pic 2. After 20 secs it flew in and grabbed a caterpillar. Tightly clenched with its mandibles and stinging it several times from the end upwards (Pic 3 & 4). Once anaestetised, it flew off back to its nest.

Habitat:

Open grassland. James Cook University, Cairns QLD
