the large pine weevil

Hylobius abietis

Description:

Hylobius abietis or the large pine weevil is a beetle belonging to Curculionidae. This species is regarded as the most important pest of conifer seedlings planted after clear felling throughout Europe, especially in countries which use this way of forest management. The weevils cause damage by eating the bark of seedlings thus preventing its further growth, or even killing them

Hi Ali! May I ask how you identified this weevil as Hylobius abietis? This conifer pest, which has golden markings, does not seem to be present in Iran:

Thanks for letting us know.
