Diamond Comb-footed Spider with hatchlings

Cryptachaea veruculata

Description:

A very small spider about 4 mm long. Abdomen was globular with a brown pattern along the midline. Thorax was brown and long legs were banded. The spider was resting in a tangled silky web with many minute spiderlings. Pic 3 shows the underside of abdomen.

Habitat:

Spotted on a eucalyptus tree A native of Australia and New Zealand, it has been introduced inot England and Belgium.

Notes:

Also known as "Cobweb Spider" It is also commonly seen in webs in corners of walls and under furniture.. Family: Theridiidae Subfamily: Theridiinae
