Description:

This leafhopper gets its it species name (scarlatina) from the red flecks on the dorsal surfaces, although sometimes, the spots may darken to brown. Leafhoppers are usually under 13 mm in length. Nymphs and adults feed on sap of above-ground stems or leaves of plants; some species are more host-specific than others

Habitat:

This one was photographed at a porch light at the edge of a southern deciduous forest in Edgefield County, SC.
