ceherzog, I live in northern Michigan -- the prickly pears I have are in a very sandy soil. Living so close to the Lake Michigan shoreline, we have no shortage of incredibly sandy soils. The prickly pears seem to love it!

I am so sad that they only stay bloomed for a day or so... they are so pretty. Thankfully, I planted a dozen or so of these and they each bloomed at different times! :)
