Questionable Stropharia

Stropharia ambigua

Description:

The mature Stropharia ambigua is very beautiful, but the specimens on my land never get to mature! The slugs had eaten the one I picked (#2) almost through around the top of the stipe so I thought I would bring it in and have a better look at it. when I went out this morning to see how the other 2 I left growing were doing, the one had its cap totally severed and other wasn't doing well either. They have a gorgeous golden cap as they emerge from the forest duff and a shaggy stipe with remains of a veil all over it. If they get to maturity, the top of the stipe is smoother, in my experience.

Habitat:

Possibly only found in the Pacific Northwest, including northern California, primarily in forest undergrowth. Mine is under mixed forest of fir, cedar and cottonwood.

Notes:

See my other spotting of this mushroom and also one by EdwardNathanReulbachJr: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/766... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/763...
