Aulacophora indica (Gmelin, 1790), syn. Galeruca indica Baly 1878, Aulacophora similis (Olivier), Aulacophora femoralis (Motschulsky, 1857), of family Chrysomelidae or leaf beetles.The common names of this beetle are Red Cucurbit Beetle, Pumpkin Beetle, Squash Beetle. A destructive pest feeding on cucurbit leaves. Distribution: in Europe, Russia, Siberia, Afghanistan, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japn, Vietnam, Lao, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Fiji, Guam, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga.

we used to play with these when we were kids :D I remember that they spray smelly yellow-orange liquid when touched.
