Black Baza

Aviceda leuphotes

About the size of a crow. With stout legs. It has a distinctive crest when perched but not visible through flight. They mainly feed on insects which they catch with their talons in flight. sometimes prey on small birds. Thought to be a winter migrant in the southern state of Kerala.

Spotted in flight over my residence which is surrounded by tall trees.

This is my first spotting this year. Happy new year every one...!
