Redpoll

acanthis flammea

Description:

Redpolls are part of the finch family and are about the same size as the European Robin. I find them quite pretty with their pink foreheads and chest. they have an undulous flying pattern and sometimes do loop the loops in the air. They are supposedly only a winter migrant and have usually moved on by the end of April but there were several feeding from the niger seeds in my Mum's garden.

Habitat:

Seen in my Mum's garden in sheffield feeding on the Niger seeds in the feeder and resting in the cherry tree in between.
