Bloody-nosed Beetle?

Timarcha tenebricosa?

Description:

Argy; your comment and suggestion reminded me of this insect I found as well. About an inch long from memory. Thanks also for the suggestion! http://www.buglife.org.uk/Resources/Bugl... The bloody nosed beetle seems quite common along the coast in Southern Britain: http://data.nbn.org.uk/interactive/map.j... I didn't notice any red fluid forming when I disturbed these two

Notes:

location probably not right for now. not worked out where i was

I have just posted pics of an Oil Beetle from the UK for ref.
Yours is "Bloody nosed" usually "bleeding" when picked up.

Are these oil beetles? They are disappearing fast in the UK. Only 4 species left I think.
