Comma

Polygonia spp.

Description:

Two tone brown with white comma marking on underwing. Never saw the inner surface. Looks most like Oreas comma, but my sighting was in early May, so maybe it is a Hoary Comma based on the season. Using "Butterflies through Binoculars" by Glassberg.

Habitat:

Grassy opening near a stream. Perched on a shady morning windowsill in early May.

Notes:

Looks most like Oreas comma, but my sighting was in early May, so maybe it is a Hoary Comma based on the season. Using "Butterflies through Binoculars" by Glassberg.
