Common Housefly Catcher (Male)

Plexippus petersi

Description:

The face of this spotting reminds me of a monkey. Plexippus petersi (Karsch, 1878), is called the Common Housefly Catcher. Female: 7-9 mm. Male: 6-7 mm. Distribution: Throughout the tropics. The jumping spiders (of family Salticidae Blackwall, 1842) have some of the best vision among invertebrates and use it in courtship, hunting, and navigation. Jumping spiders are generally recognized by their eye pattern. All jumping spiders have four pairs of eyes with one pair being their particularly large anterior median eyes.

Habitat:

Backyard, spotted on the ceiling of the garage.
