Mourning Cloak Butterfly

Nymphalis antiopa

Description:

A lovely butterfly of the woodlands, Nymphalis antiopa is characterized as a chestnut-colored butterfly with cream edges, cream triangles across the top of the forewing, and blue dots before the cream edges on the hindwings.

Habitat:

Found skipping throughout the woodlands.

Notes:

Lifer! First butterfly of the year! This individual was not the first butterfly, but this species was, as I had seen it earlier on my walk.
