Gomphaeschna antilope

Description:

This is one of the small darners, a type of dragonfly in the Genus Gomphaeschna (pygmy darners). Males have a tapered abdomen (duh!) and extremely long cerci. All markings and the eye are duller than Harlequin Darner. This is a female.

Habitat:

Found near swamps and bogs, often seen patrolling sand roads in the vicinity of the breeding habitat.

Notes:

According to Odonata Central, this spotting is a new species record for Edgefield County, SC.
