A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Mertensia virginica
Rounded gray-green leaves, erect stems, nodding pink/purple buds bloom to flowers that usually turn blue.
Wooded "in-between" area within the Bronx Zoo. Preferred habitat is moist or marshy but occasionally found in other habitats.
It took me a little while to figure out if these were wild or cultivated. Leaves and flowers are edible.
