Description:

Orange/red eyes, 3 black longitudinal stripes on thorax, chessboard pattern of grey and black on abdomen. Breeds in carrion or dung. Female viviparous, producing live maggots directly onto their food source. Flies often emerge inside homes after larvae has developed on dead rodents. Size: 5-15 mm.

World wide distribution.
