Coachwhip

Masticophis flagellum testaceus

Description:

Coachwhips are highly variable in color, ranging from light tan, red, brown, and black. Some also have light bands on them. One good characteristic for IDing a coachwhip is to look at the tail, it looks braided. This guy was light tan all over and really cooperative for the photo shoot which rarely happens!

Habitat:

Found in the southern US in various habitats. This guy was found in a prairie.
